A boutique hotel âme opened in Rotterdam, offering its guests a place to get inspired. Housed in a magnificent historical building dated back to the late XIX century, the hotel, café and concept store offer a delicately balanced atmosphere of style and tranquillity for conscious, modern travellers. We had the chance to meet the co-founders of and get inspired by this hotel with a soul.
When Angel Cheung-Kwok and Manfung Cheung saw the beautiful white building designed with a neoclassical façade, immense high ceilings and Art Nouveau style ornaments, they knew immediately it was the perfect location for their hotel.
" me" means "soul" in French, and we fell in love with the soul of this beautiful 150-years-old building," said Angel and Manfung. "We wanted to create a place where old and new gracefully meet; preserve the building's original spirit but bring modern life into it."
"During our travels, we always search for places that we can identify ourselves with, whether through a certain aesthetic, dedication to craftsmanship, or an inspiring vibe. We strived to create such a space in our home town, Rotterdam."
"We hoped to design a place where people would like to return to and get inspired," said Manfung.
